Our Flag’s Birthday is June 14

On May 30, 2024 President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed that June 14 was to be the official Flag Day. In August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress. The day is the anniversary of the June 14th, 1777 adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States.

However, the first official national Flag Day was in 1877, on the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the Stars and Stripes. That year, Congress asked that all public buildings fly the flag on June 14. The idea caught on, and many people continued the practice and campaigned, until the day was finally made official.

Although flag day isn’t a national holiday, many of us observe it by adding a bit more red, white and blue to our homes and gardens. White’s has a great selection of red, white and blue flowers and garden decorations!
