Pansies are one of our most popular cool-weather annuals. There has been some success breeding pansies that are more cold-tolerant, but not more heat tolerant. So, we grow them in the cooler months of spring and fall.
Luckily, with the many colors available, there are plenty of pansies to fit any color scheme. They are easy to grow, and their flowers are even edible. So brighten up your fall garden with some pansies.
Caring for pansies:
- Amend the soil before planting to provide good drainage around the roots. Use a good potting soil-not garden soil-if you have them in planters.
- Space them about 6″ apart.
- Water deeply, but be careful to not overwater. Donโt leave them in soggy soil.
- Mulching around the pansies with 2 inches of organic material will help conserve moisture, and reduce weed growth.
