What is the difference between an annual and a perennial?

Differentiating the two

An annual is any plant that lives for only one season. Most are divided between summer annuals which grow and produce flowers from spring to fall, and winter annuals which grow and produce flowers from fall to spring. Annuals include plant families for both sun and shade locations. A perennial is any plant the lives for more than one season (usually for many years). They tend to produce color during a specific time of year and may re-bloom more often with pruning and feeding.
